Library plans to be discussed

Posted on 25 March 2008 by admin

The UCLan library is set for a major overhaul during the summer months and they are seeking student ideas.

The building will have some drastic changes to the ground floor with the journals moving to the first and second floor, and the creation of new ‘social learning spaces’.

All issues and returns will become self-service, although an enquiry desk will stay on the ground floor.

The library are seeking students to get involved with the creation of the ‘social learning spaces’.

A memo states: “Social learning space primarily provides an area where students and staff can combine social activities (e.g. meeting, eating, relaxing, getting to know other people, staying in touch with people or simply hanging out in groups): with learning (e.g. studying with others, group project work, interaction with specialist advisors and support staff); and technology (e.g. on-line research, email, using social networking/collaboration tools, on-line workshops and computer software to create analyse and present data).

“The need for social learning space is based upon research that students need the stimulus of interaction with each other, in social groups, to construct their learning.”

The consultations are to be held in the Media Factory’s sandbox facilities, contact ATeam@uclan.ac.uk if you want to get involved.
