It has been a great year for UCLan women’s badminton but captain Tanya Hunter is not one to rest on her laurels.
A third place finish is great for a team with a new captain and four new players coming in from their fresher year. The women also had to contend with long term injuries and the loss of players from the year before.
However, Hunter hopes for improvement from her girls next season.
She said: “I hope the girls have learnt from their experiences this year and build on this great finish to improve next year.”
“Now that we know the standard within our league we know what to expect from next year. We must strive to try to gain a higher place next term.”
Asked about the chances of potential new freshers being added to her team Hunter added: “We do have two spots to fill. There are current players at the moment awaiting places on the team, but I’m always open to new talent.”
The highlight for Hunter is only losing one game all year. She said: “Looking back it was great to only lose once. Even then it was a close game against Liverpool who went on to win the league. I think that alone underlines our potential.”
Hunter also offered her thanks on behalf of the women’s team to the Foster Sports centre staff.
She said: “They have been extremely helpful in all situations this year. Badminton may not be one of the more popular sports but they made sure that we left our mark.”
