Both Source and 53 Degrees, the Student Union bar and club have undergone major refurbishments costing more than £80,000.
Source has undergone a major transformation that took four weeks to complete. The old booths have been replaced with new ones, and the tables in the booths have been heightened. This is to make the bar more comfortable, as it had been difficult in previous years to enjoy food with low tables.
Two walls have been removed, and a new lounge area has been created, featuring plasma screens, couches, coffee tables and a Nintendo Wii games console.
UCLan SU’s nightclub 53 Degrees has had an extra set of fire doors installed.
The new doors, placed at the back of the club between the two bars, means that the maximum capacity has been increased from 1,200 to 1,500 people for live events.
The increase puts 53 Degrees on a par with local venues such as Manchester Academy in terms of capacity.
Venue co-ordinator David Knight said that the increase in capacity had been planned for some time. He said: “This is good as it now increases the ability to attract better bands to the venue.”

extra doors make a room bigger?
How do they figure out that?
I reckon the place can only hold 1000 in comfort.
What is this?
The TARDIS?
