Studies delayed for accident girl

Posted on 19 September 2008 by admin

A 19-year-old student who should be enjoying freshers week at UCLan has had to postpone her studies for a year after a serious moped accident on holiday.

Charlotte Robinson, 19, is now back at home, even though her insurance company had not paid the £20,000 medical fees.

Atlas Travel had refused to pay as there is a suspicion that Charlotte may have been drinking, despite the fact that she was a pillion passenger.

Charlotte, from Rawtenstall, Lancashire, fell off the back of the moped and suffered a broken pelvis.  She also had massive head injuries and has had an operation to remove a three-inch piece of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain.

Speaking last week, her father Andy said that she was making a good recovery.  He said: “She’s pretty much 99 per cent of what she used to be. She has some memory loss and some pretty bad scarring but she is ok.”

She was set to begin a three-year English Literature course at UCLan but that has been put back to allow Charlotte to make a full recovery from her injuries.
