A man has suffered massive head injuries at the hands of a group of youths, after visiting his friend at UCLan.
Michael Tripp, 20, was hit outside Kopa Halls after a night out in Source with friends on October 4.
He claims to have been hit by a brick, although police are still investigating.
Craig Bennett, a first-year journalism student was part of the group that were attacked. He said that he had not seen anything like it.
He said: “We’d been in Source for the night and then we went to meet some friends who were on their way home from town. On their way back, they had bumped into a group of chavs. We went to a take-away and when we went outside around seven or eight of them were waiting with their hoods up.”
The youths then followed the group of students back to Kopa Halls where Michael was hit by one of them.
Michael was taken to hospital by his friend and claims youths threw bottles and road signs at the students who were inside Kopa Halls gates.
Lancashire Constabulary issued this statement: “The offender is described as around 5’ 6” aged approximately 17-years-old and was wearing a grey hooded top and tracksuit. A verbal altercation appears to have taken place amongst two groups of people walking along Moor Lane which has then led to a man aged 20 being punched in the face causing a cut to his forehead. It is unknown if the offender was in possession of a weapon.”
PC Angela Biden is investigating the case. Anyone with any information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
