UCLan Hockey make light work of Cumbria

Posted on 17 October 2008 by Alan Livingstone

UCLan’s Hockey Men’s 3rd team have started their league campaign in unbelievable style with a 13-0 demolition of Cumbria’s 1st team.

UCLan’s slick passing and stick skills were too much for Cumbria who were outclassed throughout the game. Cumbria’s first touch of the ball was their goalkeeper picking the ball out of his goal after the 3rds had scored immediately.

After that moment, the victory was never in doubt. The goals kept coming for UCLan and they found themselves 6-0 up at halftime and they deserved every goal. The 3rds added another seven goals to their collection in the second half.

UCLan also had a goal disallowed, but Steven Telford had his shot from a short corner cruelly disallowed. But he scored minutes later. Dan Smith and Adam Taylor both scored hattricks. Steve Adams and Chris Bromwell got two goals each. Simon Rome and the other Adam Taylor also got their names on the score sheet.

The game will be remembered for goals but the 3rd team looked just as good in defence as they were in attack and were never troubled when the opposition’s attackers got the ball.

Cumbria didn’t take shots in the game, which proved UCLan’s dominance. Philip Meachin, captain of the 3rd team was very happy with the result which bodes well for the rest of the season. The team will be looking to build on their winning start next week, away against Liverpool Hope 1sts.
