It has been a disappointing start to the season for UCLan Hockey Women’s 3rds who slumped to an 8-1 defeat against Lancaster 3rds. UCLan started well keeping the home side from entering the D, often pressing forwards to challenge the Lancaster defenders. Lancaster scored their first goal with less than ten minutes on the clock. A demoralised defence found it difficult to stop the second which came moments after the restart.
Another three came before the half time whistle to make it 5-0 Lancaster.
UCLan came out looking a stronger side after a change in formation brought midfielder Emma Taylor in to the defence. Although, a short corner early in the second half led to Lancaster claiming their sixth goal of the afternoon.
Another two soon followed leaving any chance of a comeback for UCLan impossible. The visitors weren’t deterred by this and some strong work from the forwards lead to a consolation goal from the stick of Chloe Harman. Leaving the score Lancaster 8 UCLan 1.
Captain Sadhbh O’Shea said “It was our first match together and we showed towards the end of the match what a strong team we can be. We have things to work on, but there are plenty of positives to be taken from the match.”
