You will hopefully find navigating your way around Pluto Online fairly easily, but there are a number of ways you can get even more out of your online student media experience.
The site is built using WordPress, and it gives contributors and readers plenty of options to interact with each other and the web.
As always, if you have any ideas or suggestions for the site, either contact us via email, or leave a comment at the end of this article.
You can comment on any story published on Pluto Online. There has been a fantastic response to the Multi Faith Centre story, and you too can join, or even create, the debate on any issue raised on Pluto Online. The “leave your response” box appears at the bottom of each story. Your comment must be approved by an editor before it goes online, but new comments are checked regularly throughout the day.
Share stories on Social Networking sites
Maybe you have written a good article, maybe you’ve been included in a story, or maybe you have just read an article you really recommend. Pluto Online enables you to share stories with all your friends through a variety of social networking and bookmarking sites. Links to Facebook, Digg, Technorati, Delicious and more appear at the bottom of each story (above the comment box), simply click the appropriate icon and follow the instructions to share the story you are reading.
You can also give each article a rating.
There are a number of ways you can search through all content old and new on Pluto Online. You can either use keywords to search using the box in the top right, or you can view stories by the month they were published, clicking the links down the right hand side.
All stories by one author
This is more useful for contributors than anyone else, although if you particularly like a certain writer’s style, you can also view other stories by them via this method. Simply click the authors name at the top of the story (underneath the headline) and this will bring up all stories written by that author. Simple.
Stories by subject
Using the tag cloud on the left, you can view all stories that cover the same issues. For instance, if you click the tag “Barack Obama” in the tag cloud, this will bring up all stories that are tagged with “Barack Obama”.
Video and audio content
The latest news round ups supplied by PS-TV will appear on the site in the right hand sidebar. We have now thankfully resolved the issue of the video automatically starting up each time a page is loaded! There is also a link to the stream provided by the Frequency radio station. Pluto Online will also be looking at developing our own audio and video content to sit alongside stories, similar to other news websites.
You can also help us by spreading the word. The more people that visit the website, the higher the chance of debate being generated through the comments system. Join our Facebook group and invite your friends.

A related posts feature has now been added to the bottom of each article, which will prove to be an excellent feature once all old archived stories are added to the system.

How far back does the archive go, does it overlap with the old site’s entries?

Yes it does. Hopefully, eventually, stories dating back to September 2007 will be added to the archive.

Have to say, this site is looking terrific. A real step forward for Pluto and I’m absolutely loving it – a great portal for me to keep up to date with everything that’s going on back at UCLan! Well done to the whole team and especially you James for all the hard work you’ve clearly put into this site.

Thanks Craig, I’m quite pleased with how things have turned out. It’s quite time consuming going through the old stuff, I’ve not quite got to the stage of having to get the content straight from the PDFs, but I fear that’s not far off!
