Lindsay Hoyle MP for Chorley is urging Ministers to help university graduates and those applying to universities during the current economic downturn.
Lindsay Hoyle asked the Minister responsible for Higher Education what help and support can be given to assist students during the credit crunch to enter job markets and to ensure people still see university as a viable option.
In response to Lindsay’s question the Minister responded:
“The Secretary of State has recently met with student recruiters and careers advisors in the Higher Education system to discuss working together to encourage, employers in the third, public and private sectors to extend apprenticeships, internships and help develop a wider range of career development loans now available.”
Commenting after the debate Lindsay said:
“We have seen a significant increase in the number of young people attending university. However, with unemployment rising there is real concern amongst students that they will be unable to gain jobs and consequently pay off their debts. I am pleased that the government is taking action to help graduates and ensure that people will not be deterred from attending university.”
