Screws of the World: throwing away our right to a free press since 1969

It’s the paper that brought hundreds of criminals to justice, exposed sex scandals, tapped Royal phone lines and relentlessly stalked celebrities.

The current situation at News of the World needs little introduction. But for those recently returned from Mediterranean beaches, African safaris and trips to Mars, here goes…

Pop goes the music

One such definition of pop music suggests that it is “popular music intended for, or accepted by a wider audience”. Whilst this sounds about right, there has been a strange trend in the last decade or so which has seen the counter culture take over. Any genre that is seen as anti-establishment automatically becomes cool; the minority becomes the majority if you will.

Bikini Black Special- Preston’s new big thing…

Bikini Black Special are, if you didn’t know, one of Preston’s best musical hopes putting our fair city on the musical map. PR1 caught up with the band just before their record breaking set at 53 Degrees.

 When asked to describe their sound, both Paddy Green (guitars/synths/vocals) and Kim Seward (vocals) agree that “We just want to make noise. We make noisy electro rock, we like to dance around and we hope that other people want to dance around with us too!” Continue Reading
