Student Loans Company make further cuts

The Student Loans Company had descended into further chaos after 150 jobs have been axed. A further 45 jobs are to be relocated almost 200 miles away from Glasgow to Darlington.

Bogus students exploit immigration system

LARGE numbers of illegal immigrants are coming to the UK under lax foreign student regulations in the “biggest loophole in the immigration system”.

Major flaws in the new system aimed at clamping down on bogus students were exposed in a Home Office memo leaked to the Daily Telegraph.

International students drive postgraduate sector

The UK’s postgraduate sector is booming thanks to an increase in overseas students, a study has found.

Findings from a leading study commissioned by the British Library and Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) into postgraduate education has found that student numbers have increased by 12% by 2002-03 with the biggest growth area being masters degrees which has risen by 27%.

UK slips into ‘relegation’ of education league tables

The UK has spectacularly fallen to the bottom of the international education tables. with particpation leves lower than that of the third world.

The news came on the day the University and College Union (UCU) launched a cross-party group in Westminster to put UK education back on the map.
